From indications the Catalan giant would not get any marquee signing this summer.
Barcelona boast of having the strongest trio in attack in world football with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.
They trio seem to be at their best with Messi starting the La Liga with a banger performance against Real Betis, Suarez getting a hat trick in the league opener after winning the golden boot last term, and Neymar helped Brazil break their record when he scored the last kick in a penalty shootout, helping his country get their first ever gold medal in the men’s football event at the Rio Olympics.
Since 2006, the current La Liga champions have not been this dormant in the transfer market. The spent quite a sum getting an important centre back in Samuel Umtiti and adding Lucas Digne – who might not get enough opportunities for his original position. Denis Suarez and Andre Gomez are other additions made this summer, but with established players like Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta, Sergi Roberto, Arda Turan, Sergi Samper, Rafinha, and Ivan Rakitic, it seems they would have to wait a lot to get playing time. However, with a lot of competitions this fresh season and after learning from the last campaign, it seems a nice idea not to have a modest squad.
In 2007, Real Madrid splashed over €130 million on Arjen Robben, Pepe, Wesley Sneijder, Gabriel Heinze, Christoph Metzelder, Javier Saviola, Jerzy Deudek and Royston Drenthe. Aside Pepe that proved to be a great buy, the rest pointed to an aimless transfer scheme. Of the lot, only Dudek and former Manchester United player Gabriel Heinze spent more than two seasons. Barcelona seem to be falling into the same trap this season. The former strategy of picking La Masia graduates seem to have phased out. Barca remain arguably the strongest side in the La Liga, with a funny transfer strategy this season, they sure look like a side that wouldn’t add a marquee signing this summer.
Former Argentine defender Gabriel Heinze is set to fight to redeem his coaching career after a disastrous first attempt with Godoy Cruz in the last campaign.
The former Argentine star started his career in football with Newell under 19 in the Argentine football league in 1996 before his switch to Real Valladolid in Spain. He played briefly before his loan stint in Portugal in action for Sporting CP.
The retired defender played for French Champions Paris St. Germain back in 2001 before his move to England where he played under Sir Alex Ferguson. He won a lot of accolades for the club until his move to Real Madrid in 2007. The player who is well travelled also featured for French and Italain clubs Marseille and AS Roma respectively before returning to his boyhood club where he ended his career after the 2013 season.
His stint with Godoy Cruz was terrible and he was sacked just after ten games at the helm. He won only two games, played a draw in two and chaired six losses. He was appointed the coach of Argentinos Juniors last month to attempt to restore the club to top flight football after they were relegated to the second division. The ex Red Devils player, who made 83 appearances for the club, is reported to have started making plans as the club prepares for the fight of their lives, the players to return to top flight football and Heinze to restore his image as a coach who should be taken seriously.
“I was motivated by the challenge, because the history of the club is very large and has a staff full of quality. For me it is a very big challenge. I will be here to grow as a professional,” he said at his unveiling. The player has been reported to have made changes to the team’s game plan and players ahead of the forthcoming season.
Former Manchester United player Gabriel Heinze is another player that has been named in the Panama Papers.
He joined other football players such as Michel Platini and Lionel Messi, who have also been named in the papers.
It is believed that the Argentine player has created a company known as the Galena Mills Corp in the Virgin Islands in order to receive his payment from Puma. Using this offshore company allowed Gabriel Heinze to minimize the amount of tax paid and was cited in the Panama Papers.
It is also believed that the former Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain player also had a bank account in Switzerland.
The player defended himself by saying it was a legal thing to do as he wanted to protect his succession in case something happened to him. A legal representative for the player was quoted as saying that everything was done legally and that all taxes were paid wherever needed.
Premier League fans will remember Gabriel Heinze during his time at Manchester United. He joined the club in 2004 for a fee that was reported to be around £6.9 million from Paris Saint-Germain. He was already considered a successful player by the time he joined Manchester United, and it will not take long before he scored his first goal for the Red Devils. Indeed, his first goal will come in a 2-2 draw against Bolton Wanderers.
He will quickly establish himself as a first-team left-back for Manchester United and will form a formidable partnership with the other defenders. He will go on and win several trophies with Manchester United. He won the Premier League title in 2007 as well as the League Cup in 2006. He will leave the English team in 2008 after losing his place in the starting line-up and sign for Real Madrid.
The Argentine centre back has been getting bad press due to his related involvements in the Panama offshore accounts’ scandal.
Gabriel Heinze was named by analysts as one of the average players Sir Alex Ferguson made into excellent squad player when the current 38-year old defender played at Old Trafford.
It started when former coach, Harry Redknapp compared Jesse Lingard of the current Red Devils squad to legend Ryan Giggs. The coach hinted that the player is far from outstanding.
“Jesse Lingard? Again, a good player, but we’re not talking about the next David Beckham or Ryan Giggs here are we? Come on. There’s no way he’d have got into the United team a few years back,” Redknapp’s column in Daily Telegraph read.
MediaWatch retorted in criticism of the post saying: “A few years back like ten years ago when Kieran Richardson played 36 times in a Manchester United that won the League Cup and finished second in the Premier League? Or nine years ago when he won a Premier League winner’s medal? Lingard is not the next David Beckham or Ryan Giggs but – and this may come as a shock to Redknapp – not every player can be. Some players have to be Kieran Richardson or Jesse Lingard.”
“I look around that United team and wonder who would have got into Fergie’s great sides,’ continues Redknapp before citing Wayne Rooney (of course) and possibly Michael Carrick (of course). But not David de Gea. ‘Apart from that, I don’t see anyone who’d come close.”
MediaWatch again mentioned the 2006/2007 Manchester United team that won the Premier League, reached the FA Cup final and the semi-finals of the Champions League. They claimed players such as Richardson, ‘Gabriel Heinze,’ Wes Brown, Louis Saha, John O’Shea, Mikael Silvestre and Park-Ji Sung were average players that the legendary coach turned excellent squad players that achieved that much success for the club.
After giving up his playing career, Gabriel Heinze went on to become a coach but things haven’t been going in a positive way as the Argentinean took charge of Godoy Cruz on June 2015 but was sacked only a few months later on September after only being able to sustain 2 triumphs, 2 draws and 6 defeats.
Gabriel Heinze is now available to take up a new coaching position in a team and he was even being taken consideration for a club that had recently opened up a managerial spot.
Daniel Onofri is the president of the Argentine football club Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata and he was one of the main figures behind the dismissal of the coach Pedro Troglio who was sacked from coaching Gimnasia y Esgrima.
The president Daniel Onofri voiced a few of the reasons of why Pedro Troglio was removed from his managerial position as he said: ‘’It’s the end of an era, of a cycle and a change was needed. Everyone in the club highly values and appreciates what Pedro has done for the club.
Gabriel Heinze was being viewed as someone who could replace Pedro Troglio and become the new manager of Gimnasia y Esgrima but unfortunately for Heinze, he was quickly discarded as a possible candidate for the managerial position due to the fact that he does not have any proper coaching training and following his disappointing coaching spell with Godoy Cruz where he suffered 6 defeats from 10 games, Heinze just wasn’t considered to be an ideal candidate.
Heinze is currently taking up proper coaching training as he does want to become a proper and official manager but since he still hasn’t gone through the valid process, it has already started to cost him with the chance to take control of a club.
Juventus placed a lot of hope upon midfielder Sami Khedira being an influential player in the upcoming campaign.
The German international was brought in from Real Madrid on a free transfer after he allowed his contract with the Spanish club to expire. His signing convincingly Juventus to allow Vidal to join Bayern Munich for around £ 30 million. The Chilean midfielder has been the cornerstone in the club’s successes over the last three years, but allowing him to leave now looks like a major gamble.
Khedira will be out for the next two months after suffering a thigh injury.
This is the latest in a long list of injury troubles for the midfielder. A box to box star, there is no doubt that Khedira can dominate the midfield in Italian Serie A. His energy would be very key in not only stopping the opposition but also Juventus going forward as well.
Juventus have confirmed in a statement that Khedira has suffered the thigh injury while playing in the friendly against Marseille. The news is only softened by the fact that the Italian Serie A does not begin until the third week of August. The game against Marseille was the debut made by Khedira in a Juventus shirt.
“Sami Khedira will be sidelined for approximately two months after medical examinations revealed a second-grade myotendinous tear of the rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh. The German midfielder sustained the injury during last Saturday’s preseason friendly against Olympique Marseille at the StadeVelodrome,” said Khedira.
The German could only manage under 650 minutes of action throughout the entire campaign for Real Madrid last season. However, Juventus were seemingly confident that this was just a one-off. Khedira did not have a huge influence at the World Cup 2014 due to the same reason. Juventus host Udinese in the opening game of the campaign.
On June of the ongoing year, Gabriel Heinze was appointed as the coach of the Argentine club Godoy Cruz and even though it hasn’t even been a year since he has taken control of the team, he already is making drastic changes and one of these adjustments involved slashing down the amount of players in the main team which had 40 players.
Heinze opted to return 10 youngsters back into the youth academy as they made a move from the main team over to the reserves.
When it comes to the reinforcements that might arrive to the team, Heinze stated that before adding any new players to the team first he wants to get to actually know his squad and what they are capable of doing before searching around the transfer market for possible signings.
Taking charge of Godoy Cruz is the managerial role that Gabriel Heinze has done as the Argentinean football figure has never coached a club before. He does however, have experience with some of the biggest clubs in the world as he has performed with: Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Real Madrid and As.Roma just to name a few of his former clubs.
During the playing career of Gabriel Heinze he has had the privilege of playing alongside some of the greatest players in the world of football including: Lionel Messi, Francesco Totti and Paul Scholes. Heinze worked along with Messi when they both were with the Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys and Heinze believes that Messi will be spending the last few years of his career with the Argentine outfit.
Gabriel Heinze revealed his thoughts concerning Messi and what his last club will be as the former defender said: “Messi is going to retire at Newell’s, I have no doubt about it, I can’t see him in any other shirt in Argentina that isn’t Newell’s and that’s how I see him retiring.”
Lionel Messi has spent over 13 years performing for Barcelona where he has managed to lift just about every single major trophy in the world of football and Messi was believed to have never be interested in leaving Camp Nou but Gabriel Heinze has a different point of view.
13 Premier League and 2 Champions League titles are just some of the major pieces of silverware that Sir.
Alex Ferguson achieved during his managerial career in charge of Manchester United. There was a period of time when Manchester United was considered to be the best team in England by a large margin as Sir. Alex Ferguson and his squad claimed the Premier League for successive years and even managed to win the treble in the 1998-99 season.
Gabriel Heinze is now a retired footballer but a few years ago, the Argentine defender used to perform for Manchester United and he knows how things in the Premier League work after having played in that club for over 2 years.
Heinze believes that Manchester United will never be the club they were after Sir. Alex Ferguson announced his retirement in May of 2013.
Former Manchester United player, Gabriel Heinze said: “It’s not Manchester United anymore. It’s very simple because after so much time of seeing that face and personality of Alex Ferguson, it’s not easy.Yes he had to leave some day because no-one is eternal. But the truth is that Sir Alex Ferguson left a big void. It will never be the same because for a Manchester United supporter Alex Ferguson will be the person who has marked the history and the club.’’
Louis van Gaal is attempting to bring back the glory days of Manchester United and the Dutch manager has done a good job as he has pushed the English club to the top 4 spots of the Premier League which is incredibly well for a team that had been struggling so much under the guidance of David Moyes.
Paulo Dybala is willing to represent Argentina in International Football rather than Italy.
The forward is eligible to play for both the countries. Although he is an Argentinean by origin, he’s had the passport of Italy as well and the Italian management has even expressed the desire of picking him for the games in future.
But, Dybala is not looking forward to that. He is not interested in putting on an Italy jersey.
The reason why Dybala is keen for an Argentina call up rather than the Italy one is Lionel Messi who is his role model.
The young man wants to pair with Lionel Messi upfront.
Speaking recently to an Argentinean newspaper, Dybala said, “It has always been a dream for me to feature in Argentina outfit one day. I desperately want to have that opportunity.”
“Recently, I got to know that Italy wanted me, but, they never got in touch with me to talk about that. I did not get any official call.”
“Playing alongside Leo would be a great thrill. I can play with him in the attacking line and I can play other roles too for the team.”
Dybala is, however, in Italy at the moment playing for the first division club Palermo, but, he is open to making a move to La Liga if he gets an offer from Barcelona.
When asked about that, the 21-year old said, “I would absolutely love that. To sign for Barcelona is a great honour for any young player and I am no different.
Although, I am alright here in Italy right now, but, I would not mind getting to the other end of the Mediterranean to play with some of the greats of the game.”
Dybala has scored 20 goals in 78 games for Palermo.
Pablo Zabaleta reckons if Sergio Aguero was available for selection in World Cup final match against Germany, Argentina perhaps would have been able to become the champion.
Because of the injury, Aguero had not played in every World Cup game for Argentina.
Although, even in his absence, La Albiceleste went ahead quite strongly in the tournament, but, against the rock solid defensive line of Germany, they missed Aguero dearly.
At the moment, Aguero is arguably the best attacker in the game. He has been absolutely unstoppable in the English first division this season.
He has slammed almost one goal per match for his team Manchester City and is currently, the top scorer in the Premier League. The 26-year old has recently overtaken Diego Costa of Chelsea.
Talking about Aguero yesterday, Zabaleta said, “I have seen Sergio very closely over the years and I can tell you he has never played better than this. He seems to have reached his prime which is fantastic for Manchester City.”
“As an Argentina fan, you do wonder at times what would have happened if he was there to play every game in Brazil. He could surely have made a difference there, but, there is no point discussing that as World Cup’s gone.”
When asked if he thinks that Aguero is playing as well as any other forward right now, Zabaleta said, “Yes, I do think so. Having him here at Manchester City is brilliant and I hope the way he has gone so far this summer, he keeps going like this till the end.”
This is the 4th season that Aguero is spending at Etihad and this is proving to be his best one so far. He had been amongst the goals in the last three seasons too, but, never has he been this consistent.
