Argentina would embrace Lionel Messi return

Argentine defender Gabriel Mercado has said that the national team would embrace Lionel Messi with open arms, should he decide to end his self-imposed exile. The Barcelona star was among the main players criticised after Argentina’s failure at the summer World Cup and he has thereafter opted to exclude himself from national team duty for the past three rounds of international fixtures.

Despite this, Argentina general manager Jorge Burruchaga recently cited that he is confident of luring Messi to the national fold next year and Mercado believes the team and the supporters are waiting for the moment when that happens, he said: “We have to respect his decision, he has his reasons for wanting to take time out and if he wants to consider a return at some point, that will be really important. All Argentineans are waiting for him with open arms, so we have to wait and see what will happen.” Continue reading Argentina would embrace Lionel Messi return

TEVEZ, KUYT AND HEINZE GOT CLEARANCE FOR BANNED STUFF

Hackers Fancy Bears have released claims that Argentine soccer stars Carlos Tevez and Gabriel Heinze, and former Netherlands international Dirk Kuyt were permitted by FIFA to get clearance for banned substances ahead of the World Cup in south Africa in 2010.

The hackers are notorious for publishing the medical records of celebrities and sports stars. They claim the allegations prove that doping is prevalent in football as well. The group which has been linked to a group in Russia, claim the list is 150 long, showing stars that failed drug tests in 2015. Fancy Bears say up to 25 players that summer in 2010 were using banned substances whilst claiming medical grounds.

Former Man United striker, Tevez was with Premier League side Manchester City then. He was named among five players from Argentina that used Betamethasone – a steroid used in creams to treat skin issues. Heinze is alleged to have used banned substances as well, along with another former United man Juan Veron.

Kuyt, who was with Liverpool then, registered that he used Dexamethasone – another steroid used to treat skin issues. Another Premier League man Ryan Nelson was reported to have used banned substance as well.

The declarations are in strict accordance with the World Anti-Doping Agency regulations as they disclosed their use to FIFA ahead of the tournament. The agency has been very vocal against fighting the use of banned substance. If there were foul play, moves would have been made but Fancy Bears think otherwise.

MANCHESTER UNITED ARE IN ROMERO’S SAFE HANDS

When Mourinho told the press that Romero will start the Europa league final against Ajax, eyebrows wereraised and inquiries made into the relationship between the Portuguese and first choice goalie David De Gea after all the 54-year old choleric is never far from picking up issues with star players wherever he goes.

That kind of reaction though can only be excused for folks who don’t know what’s been going on in Manchester this season particularly in Europe. The reason for that is not farfetched. The stats that poured forth after the curtains went down on Wednesday’s night shows the Argentine goalie played 18 matches, kept 12 clean sheets and lost none.

As far as back up goal keepers go, the former AZ man is pretty amazing, maybe even a little bit too amazing to belong to the backup club whose identity is primarily warming the hell out of stadium benches from season to season.

And not just that, they are also known for their incompetence to stand in firmly when called upon. Romero represents something far from such back bench role, in fact, he is simply too good to be a backup goalie when he could be the no 1 in pretty decent clubs and Manchester United are lucky to have him.

Anyone keen observer will know that the only actual surprise here is the Argentine’s coming to being a back up goal keeper and not necessarily the pretty stats. He is a top national team’s chief goalie for Christ’s sake and not justthat, he’s also played in U-20 World Cup final, Copa America and the FIFA World Cup final.

With reports of De Gea’s move to Real Madrid, this summer, flying around leading soccer tabloids, the Red Citizens of Manchester will do well to take solace in the fact that no matter what happens they will be in safe hands.

Gabriel Heinze is flying high with Argentinos Juniors

Gabriel Heinze is guiding Argentinos Juniors to the top of the Primera B Nacional which is the 2nd tier Argentine football League and are on course of earning a promotion spot to the Primera Division.

Argentinos Juniors snatched their 4th successive league victory on April 23 after defeating Atletico Parana with a final scoreboard of 1-0. Gabriel Heinze has a squad that is mostly filled with younger players that range from the age of 18- 26.

There are older performers in the team of Heinze but the vast majority are youth players who have their entire career lying ahead and the 39 year old manager Gabriel Heinze has recently talked about the current situation of his club as the former Manchester United player said:

‘’I knew that I was going to find myself with a lot of youngsters when I arrived. I had to work with Borrelli, Sanzotti and Marra and I asked for 8 of the best from the 6th division onwards.

We decided to work hard in order to promote youngsters and this is what is happening but this cannot be entirely credited to myself as I have staff members who helped in this process. The supporters of Argentinos Juniors should be proud of what these youngsters have been accomplishing’’

In Gabriel Heinze’s playing career, he has managed to lift various pieces of silverware including: The Premier League, La Liga and Ligue 1 titles just to name a few as his career was fairly impressive and his managerial path appears to have kick-started on a high note as he is pushing Argentinos Juniors to Free Bet Store the top of 2nd tier Argentine League as his career continues to expand.

ARGENTINA DEFEAT CHILE

South American giants Argentina and Chile clashed on Thursday with Lionel Messi helping his country get victory.

The win ensures that the Copa America finalists remain in the race for Russia 2018.

The 2014 World Cup finalists have had a bad recent history but they seem keen on making it to the forthcoming World Cup next year. They currently place third with 22 points. They are eight points off leaders Brazil but they are just one point away from second place Uruguay. Brazil defeated Uruguay 4-1.

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi scored through a penalty kick, beating City keeper Claudio Bravo.

Fuenzalida had pushed PSG forward Angel Di Maria before the referee Sandro Ricci pointed to the spot. The game was a tense one – due to the stakes involved – and the pitch was below par.

Chile badly wanted to draw the game. In all honesty, they deserved it. Arsenal playmaker Alexis Sanchez could have equalized but his attempt was denied by the post. He sent in a brilliant ball from a free kick but it hit the post. The keeper had to respond immediately They had sent the ball to the back of the net early in the game but the referee ruled it offside.

Argentina coach Edgardo Bauza confessed that the team “lost the ball” a lot but he was happy that they got the result they wanted. The Copa America champions are now in sixth place – due to goal difference.

Columbia defeated Bolivia 1-0 so they move to fourth place – one point ahead of Ecuador. Ecuador were defeated 2-1 by Paraguay. The results of this round make the qualification more competitive, meaning the next rounds are going to something else as teams scramble for qualification.

RIVER PLATE LIFT COPA ARGENTINA

River Plate have earned a shot at the forthcoming Copa Libertadores – the top South American cup tournament.

River won their first title in the knockout competition courtesy of a hat trick from striker Lucas Alario.

Rosario Central were ahead but River Plate stole the victory to end the game 4-3 on Thursday. River Plate would have another shot at the Libertadores – a tournament they won for the third time last year. They are the favourites to lift the title for the fourth time.

Rosario were pained by the loss especially after going up first. They have finished in second place for three years now. They lost the final to Huracan two years ago before losing to Carlos Tevez’s side Boca Juniors last year.

This term they led after 30 minutes courtesy of goals from Damian Musto and Marco Ruben. They were ecstatic with victory staring them in the face. However, two goals from Alario via spot kicks quickly cancelled their lead. Striker Ruben got another goal in the second half to give Central the lead again.

Alario got another for River and substitute Ivan Alonso got the winner. The victory was well received after River’s 4-2 home loss to Boca in the Superclassico over the weekend. The victory over Central could mean $five million for River Plate. Under Coach Marcelo Gallardo, it is the sixth title though it is the first in a domestic competition in two years. Taking $1 to 15.95 Argentine Pesos, the club could rake in 80 million Pesos, according to La Nacion. The seven goal thriller was pure spectacle that provided respite following a gloomy situation in South America at the moment.

GUARDIOLA BACKS AGUERO AFTER ARGENTINA NIGHTMARE

Man City manager Pep Guardiola has backed his lead striker Sergio Aguero after his nightmare experience for Argentina during the international break.

Aguero had issues with his calf last week during the 2-2 draw against Peru. He managed to recover early for the Paraguay tie on Tuesday. Howver, the Sky Blues forward lost a penalty as Argentina crahsed to a 1-0 loss in the game played in Cordoba. The penalty miss dealt a significant blow to the World Cup hopes of Argentina.

Aguero, who is on excellent form, has scored 11 goals this term for Man City. He netted hat tricks against Steaua Bucharest and Borussia Monchengladbach in the UEFA Champions League, and has contributed immensely to the successes so far at the Etihad under Guardiola.

“Emotionally, he’s fine. He’s very well. But you have to know we are all criticised – an Argentine in Argentina, a Brazilian in Brazil, a Spaniard in Spain, the players across the world and the managers across the world. It can make you stronger, you can put up with it, or else you better find something else to do,” said Guardiola.
The Catalan added that other top stars like Neymar, Lionel Messi, Raheem Sterling, Angel Di Maria and others were criticized heavily as well.

“It’s not exclusive to Sergio, it’s happening to Leo too, with Di Maria, it happens to Dani Alves in Brazil, to Neymar in Brazil, to Raz in England. When you play badly and you lose, they kill you,” he said.

Elsewhere in Argentina, there are rumours that Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is behind the snub of Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi. Local news outlet, Debate Final claims that captain Messi vetos the final squad selection. There was a love triangle a few years back between the Inter captain, Wanda Nara and Maxi Lopez – Messi’s close friend. There are rumours that Messi is on a revenge mission for Lopez who once played for Barcelona.

NO MARQUEE SIGNING FOR BARCELONA THIS SUMMER

From indications the Catalan giant would not get any marquee signing this summer.

Barcelona boast of having the strongest trio in attack in world football with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

They trio seem to be at their best with Messi starting the La Liga with a banger performance against Real Betis, Suarez getting a hat trick in the league opener after winning the golden boot last term, and Neymar helped Brazil break their record when he scored the last kick in a penalty shootout, helping his country get their first ever gold medal in the men’s football event at the Rio Olympics.

Since 2006, the current La Liga champions have not been this dormant in the transfer market. The spent quite a sum getting an important centre back in Samuel Umtiti and adding Lucas Digne – who might not get enough opportunities for his original position. Denis Suarez and Andre Gomez are other additions made this summer, but with established players like Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta, Sergi Roberto, Arda Turan, Sergi Samper, Rafinha, and Ivan Rakitic, it seems they would have to wait a lot to get playing time. However, with a lot of competitions this fresh season and after learning from the last campaign, it seems a nice idea not to have a modest squad.

In 2007, Real Madrid splashed over €130 million on Arjen Robben, Pepe, Wesley Sneijder, Gabriel Heinze, Christoph Metzelder, Javier Saviola, Jerzy Deudek and Royston Drenthe. Aside Pepe that proved to be a great buy, the rest pointed to an aimless transfer scheme. Of the lot, only Dudek and former Manchester United player Gabriel Heinze spent more than two seasons. Barcelona seem to be falling into the same trap this season. The former strategy of picking La Masia graduates seem to have phased out. Barca remain arguably the strongest side in the La Liga, with a funny transfer strategy this season, they sure look like a side that wouldn’t add a marquee signing this summer.
