Barcelona defender Gerard Pique said that his team were made to rue for the missed chances during the opening half of the El Clasico. The Blaugrana had the chance to register a sixth win from seven matches at the Bernabeu but that was not the case with Real Madrid scoring two goals during the second half of the contest.

Speaking after the game, Pique was frustrated with the team’s efforts during the first half and stated that it was the worst Los Blancos side he had played against, he told: “The Madrid side that we faced in the first half was the worst I have played against. They improved after the break and won the game. But we created chances to score in the first half, and if we had scored we could have taken the advantage.”

The Blaugrana had the chance to go five points clear of Los Blancos at the top of the standings with a win. However, with the defeat, they have dropped one point behind Zinedine Zidane’s team but they still have a strong chance of winning a third league title in a row. The Catalan giants are scheduled to host Real Sociedad at home during the forthcoming league fixture and the game could be tricky for them, given their opponents have proved a bogey club in the past.

In fact, Sociedad managed to pick up a 2-2 draw during the reverse fixture in December and the Blaugrana can’t get complacent ahead of the meeting. Quique Setien’s side have been hampered on the attack front with the injuries to Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele and the latter has already been ruled out for the rest of the season. Lionel Messi has remained a consistent contributor time and time again for the club but the Argentine surely needs more contribution from other members of the squad.
