Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte has said that Lautaro Martinez has plenty of room for improvement amid the recent transfer speculation. The Argentina international has made a sublime beginning to the campaign with seven goals from 13 appearances and he has been lauded for his impressive partnership with Romelu Lukaku upfront.
As a result, he has already been tipped for a bigger challenge with the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United interested but Conte believes the marksman needs to continue working hard and become more selfish in front of goal, he told: “We look to the present to build the future. He is working well and has made good progress.
“He can still make further progress because he is still only 22 years old. He has to continue to work hard. Much of the transfer talk comes from that and it cannot be seen as a problem at this moment – there are bigger concerns. He must try to be more selfish when he has a chance to score. It’s all part of his growth process. I want to improve all of my players.”
Martinez made the switch to the Nerazzurri during the previous campaign and he had a decent first season with nine goals across all competitions. He is certainly on course to usurp that tally with the positive start to the current campaign and Conte will be hoping that the forward can continue the scoring run without being affected by the speculation.
According to reports, there are suggestions that Martinez could be permitted to leave the club at the right price next summer. The former Racing Club man has a £173m release clause on his contract but the San Siro outfit are prepared to accept offers of around £96m for his future sale. Inter Milan have an away game at Bologna over the weekend.
