Roma’s chances of being in the top seven of the Italian Serie A has took a hit after they suffered a 2-2 draw at the hands of Catania during the weekend.
Despite having the experienced players like Gabriel Heinze at the back, they were unable to get all three points against a poor Catania side. As a result, they now face the threat of being overtaken by Parma and Bologna, which could push Roma into the ninth position in the table. This has been a very poor season for Roma under former Barcelona B team manager Enrique.
They have found it extremely tough to score goals on a regular basis, while against Catania, it was a problem at the back. Gabriel Heinze has played for some of the best clubs in the world including the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid. However, he was not at his best when Roma were facing Catania at home. It is thought that Roma will be parting ways with manager Enrique at the end of the season. They are looking at the possibility of getting former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, who is out of work after being sacked by Chelsea a few months ago.
“I’ll talk about the game against Catania, not about my future. We’re still on course to qualify for the Europa League. We’ve been chasing Europa League qualification for some time and that is the only important thing right now. It won’t be easy because every time we get close to that target, we haven’t done well. But we are still in with a chance and that is the only thing that interests me,” Enrique said after the match against Catania. Rumours have increasingly increased in the last few days over the future of their manager Enrique, while Andre Villas-Boas becomes the favourite to replace him.
