Juventus placed a lot of hope upon midfielder Sami Khedira being an influential player in the upcoming campaign.

The German international was brought in from Real Madrid on a free transfer after he allowed his contract with the Spanish club to expire. His signing convincingly Juventus to allow Vidal to join Bayern Munich for around £ 30 million. The Chilean midfielder has been the cornerstone in the club’s successes over the last three years, but allowing him to leave now looks like a major gamble.

Khedira will be out for the next two months after suffering a thigh injury.

This is the latest in a long list of injury troubles for the midfielder. A box to box star, there is no doubt that Khedira can dominate the midfield in Italian Serie A. His energy would be very key in not only stopping the opposition but also Juventus going forward as well.

Juventus have confirmed in a statement that Khedira has suffered the thigh injury while playing in the friendly against Marseille. The news is only softened by the fact that the Italian Serie A does not begin until the third week of August. The game against Marseille was the debut made by Khedira in a Juventus shirt.

“Sami Khedira will be sidelined for approximately two months after medical examinations revealed a second-grade myotendinous tear of the rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh. The German midfielder sustained the injury during last Saturday’s preseason friendly against Olympique Marseille at the StadeVelodrome,” said Khedira.

The German could only manage under 650 minutes of action throughout the entire campaign for Real Madrid last season. However, Juventus were seemingly confident that this was just a one-off. Khedira did not have a huge influence at the World Cup 2014 due to the same reason. Juventus host Udinese in the opening game of the campaign.
